Wednesday 30th August.
Another good Wednesday with 39 visitors and over £200 taken. We had two volunteers doing different jobs today. Di who has worked miracles in the bazaar reorganising and Adrienne who has begun the mammoth task clearing the Fimber Halt garden. It has shown that the actual lettering does need replacing. So a plea to anyone who has any contacts for white plastic sheets about 4 or 5 mm thick that we can cut new letters from.

Re: Wednesday 30th August.
Thanks Celia.
Yes wonderful things happened today. My day started with arranging a purchase of books by our friend and member Nick. We have had a big donation of railway books y a resident of Cranswick and Nick bought a few and we benefited to the tune of £105. The remaining books are on three wheeled bookcases and will remain in Cranswick until we can find storage for them.
When I got to Fimber I began my day by fitting a radio charging station to the wall in the cleaner’s cupboard in the toilet block. Sorry no photo.
I was amazed by Di Wells who has given the bazaar a facelift and chucked a lot of rubbish in the bin. It now looks much more attractive.
Thanks also to Adrienne who has tidied up the garden. It’s great that these tasks have been done spontaneously by these two volunteers. I don’t know where they got their inspiration from but they have worked wonders.

Re: Wednesday 30th August.
My day continued by giving the gradient sign another coat of paint.
Then I did an induction. Charlie is a young man who wants to volunteer as steward in the coach and we welcome his ambition, great to have you Charlie!
Lastly, a disappointment. The paint on the coach roof has deteriorated badly and needs attention. I will be consulting the manufacturer about this as it was supposed to last a lot longer than the three years or so since we completed the painting.

The excess of tools in the bazaar - if you want to put them in one of the VBs that has all the other excess tools in, I will try to sell them at a tool sale.
Onwards and upwards.

A thought
The Uffington white horse uses chalk, can this be used in a similar way to make the Fimber Halt letters

Re: Wednesday 30th August.
The Wednesday running during August has proved a real hit, so thank you to all those volunteers who are making the YWR such a success!
And thank you to our volunteers doing the gardening, the tidying & the painting & all those other jobs that get overlooked at times, but really do improve what our visitors experience

Re: Wednesday 30th August.
The problem we have is weeds. Weeds will grow through chalk.
