Malton Loco Shed

Please take time to post a message about your memories of the Malton to Driffield railway. No matter how small they are, it is always great to hear stories from the past.

Malton Loco Shed

Post by AndyB »

This is a drivers "snap tin" or lunch box that was the property of North Eastern Railway steam driver Ron Bell of Malton Shed. Does anyone know of or have any information about Mr Bell?

Hello Andy did you recently purchase the box from Phiip Smith at Sleights as he showed me a photo of the same tin/box. im dead jealous you've beaten me again!
Joking apart there was a exactly same lunch box from Darlington works at Talisman auction at NewrK in November this year that sold I think £90.00 nice item !

Yes, an early Christmas present bought from Phil. The lunch boxes were made by a company in Grimsby for various railway companies and there are a few around. I think the value is dependant on whether they have a shed name or not and maybe if they have a drivers name which is often traceable.

I have just tried the negative / slide attachment on my Canon scanner, which I have had for about 5 years but thought it would be totally useless. But now I find that I can get 4800dpi with 35mm & slides, and 2400dpi with large format negatives!

ive Been keeping this low key quiet for a long time not telling many people, for obvious reasons. That in June this year at Quorn swapmeets ( GCR rly. I bought a Malton engine shed plate of a private seller)
I was a bit nervous and on edge that it wasn’t the real genuine thing the seller reassured me it was. I know it’s 100% genuine as I’ve got several friends good contact who know there stuff about these. I showed it to Simon Turner ( of whom owns and runs GWRA railwayana) .
He has got a vast amount of knowledge of railwayana and told me it was the real deal, so I was very happy knowing that !

Yes it is a colour slide.
Chris's 50F plate was much cheaper than mine!
