  • The north facing sign (onto the road) was raised and the 'opening' banner was put up underneath it
May I ask if the new large banner with white border was also put up at the same time?
I helped with the 'opening' banner, as one of the first jobs of the day, and no it wasn't done then, and I don't believe it was done later either.
No problem - thanks Adrian. Could this be done next week please?

More work done on dismantling the static after moving the boxes of book to the bazar, with the help of Brian.

All internal bulkheads removed apart from the one with first aid station, plywood bulkhead in former sign on room still to be roved
All ceiling now removed
Electric sockets, lights & switches remove with electric cable coiled for re-use or taking onto Garton, one socket & wire remains behind a large wooden box.
Lewis salvaged some timber & plywood for future use.
Some notices & a notice board taken to CAB
The 2024 rota planning sheet too a bit of a hammering and would be best if re-printed and placed in the CAB

Work will now stop on dismantling the static until the following items are removed:
Saint Crux boxes removed.
Signing on station removed to CAB.
All items in former signing on room removed & restored elsewhere or disposed of.

ERYCC green bin is now full, waiting collection, hopefully next Wednesday.

Hopefully next weeks jobs, if static empty will be to remove remaining plywood bulkheads & polystyrene insulation, about 30 mins.
Then start to remove the doors and windows, thus making static no longer water tight (few hole already there excepted).

It's been nice to work in the dry for a few weeks, but that will come to an end very soon!!

So it seems the St Crux room still contains the books. These can be transferred to the second room on the left in the cab cabin which will effectively become the 'Library'

Has anyone investigated the removal of the safe and hoewit can be refitted in the cab cabin under the sign on point? The big question is I think, can the bolts be refitted through the cab cabin floor? Is there enough ground clearance to do this?

I am planning to be on site this weekend, probably Sunday as the wombles are doing track work that day.

Just a couple of points:
  • It is essential that when the signing on point is to be moved it is well publicised
  • When the windows are removed we should consider the risk that the wind might be able to lift the caravan ... with the possible consequences of it landing somewhere(!) and the possibility of consequential damage, so do we need to consider taking precautions to prevent this possibility? maybe anchoring it down with ratchet straps & being prepared to follow on very quickly with the removal of the superstructure

Perhaps it would be safer to remove the roof sheets before the doors and windows as then there would be nothing for the wind to get under.

Just a suggestion / idea , leave the windows in gut the rest of the inside of the caravan. Then try towing the caravan to the scrap yard. Could possibly save a huge amount of time removing panels doors etc.

The legality of putting the caravan chassis on the road is doubtful. Unless a light board can be obtained it would definitely be illegal to blow it as break lights etc may not be visible.

They do not get towed on the public highway when new. The length of them would make it a rather unpredictable drive. I would not like to be behind one either as it will not take much draft to send one into a bit of oscillation and once it starts it will only end badly for anyone in its path. I have seen smaller caravans do just that when someone breaks the speed limit with them. They are called statics for a damn good reason. The only time they are towed is on-site, at either the factory or caravan park.
