Where is this?

Please take time to post a message about your memories of the Malton to Driffield railway. No matter how small they are, it is always great to hear stories from the past.

Where is this?

Post by Rail Rover »

Not the M&D unfortunately, but I've just come across this whilst sorting through my parents' photos. I suspect it is in the locality, but haven't a clue where. I thought it looked like a track recovery train, but the lines it's on look very well maintained.

I can't get much of a clearer picture as it's a tiny print, scanned on max resolution.

Any idea of a rough date, Phil?

I don't know the answer to this Phil, but you might like the clearer versions that I have made from the original photo that you posted.

There is software out there for us on computers PC to enhance and transform photo images. I don’t know the make and how it’s done but I’m 100% positive it can be done and made a lot clearer.
Then you might be able to find out the location!

I know Chris, this I have used. I used Picasa 3 to clear up the picture and Photo Pad to colourise it. Merry Christmas Chris.

The only slight clue is the number of insulators on the telegraph poles which indicates a line of medium importance - the M&DR had only 4 wires. It looks as though there was once another track on the right.
