The coming of Driffield's railways

Please take time to post a message about your memories of the Malton to Driffield railway. No matter how small they are, it is always great to hear stories from the past.

The coming of Driffield's railways

Post by Rail Rover »

I recently came across this article in a copy of the Driffield Times of 1960. It's an interesting read:

Came across this on a Facebook group-This is Great Driffield.
Not sure if anyone else has seen it?

Presumably the open gate is Eastgate South. The frontage onto there seems very large compared to what the space is now although Albion Street can't really have moved.

Would that be Riverhead John approximately where the footbridge is now?

Sorry, Anderson not Albion. Yes, that would be where the footbridge is. I know there was a big fire in the mill sometime, it was maybe rebuilt into what it was relatively recently. The last time I was in there was when Scottish & Newcastle Brewery had a depot in there leading off Wansford Road and at that time there was at least one possibly two wagon turntables in there. The track coming out made a diamond crossing with the Glaxo one.
