Garden event 8th May 2022

Post by menticknap »

Sunday, 8th May, we are holding a ’Garden Event’ at Fimber Halt.
We have a limited number of beautiful planters, hand made by our volunteer Alan, and some lovely healthy plants, all grown from seeds by our volunteer Andy.
For one day only, we are taking 20% off the prices of all our planters and including some plants, to start you off!
It will be first come, first served, so don’t miss out. You can also meet the maker/grower if you have any questions!

See you there!! 👍
Onwards and upwards.

If this doesn't wet people's appetites I don't know what will.

Matthew B has kindly sent me some photos from the archives of four stations on the line. Wetwang, Sledmere , Wharram and Settrington. All dated in the 1920’s and 30’s and all black and white of course. I have used the Apple photos app to enhance and title them all then laminated. They will all be on display at the garden event as they feature the station gardens. One has a photo of ‘Mr and Mrs Burton admiring the flowers’. This maybe Warwick Burton the author of the book we sell which describes the line in full detail.
Hopefully this ‘mini exhibition’ could become a permanent feature in n the marquee. What do people think?

They will be good to see, Alan & a good permanent feature.

Any colour enhancement will make a huge difference to what were actually 'displays of colour' 8-)

I’m afraid I left them in black and white but with improved sharpness and contrast.
There’s one photo of Wetwang station that shows the station master William Dixon and a porter and signalman but they are unnamed. Mr Dixon is John Lidster’s grandfather but John doesn’t know their names either.

If you know their names please let me know.
Is this Warwick?

Warwick can’t possibly have been that old in 1948! In fact he might not have even been born then. It could of course be a relation of his though.

Yes of course Paul. I have sussed that and was going to reply but I can’t find my copy of the book. I have a vague memory of lending it to someone but who? It was a signed copy as well.
I’d hoped I might discover the names of the men in photo from it as well.
