Today, Saturday 2th, was a lovely day at Fimber Halt. Lots of sunshine and no showers!

Our youngest volunteer, Brad, got to work on VB3 removing rust and old paint from the steels and giving a coat of primer.

Chris did some very hard work breaking up badly damaged concrete carriers.

: You probably cant see them but he's wearing ankle shackles as well!

Robin came with his ride on and cut the grass for us. Remarkable how quickly he did it. If only we could afford one just like his! Donations please!!

: He did the entire site, including field 2 in less than two hours!

I wasn't idle. I applied wood preservative (2 coats) to the inside of VB3, ensured Brad's safety etc and with Chris's help removed one of the roof bands, prepared it and primed it (and then forgot to take a photo of it).

: Although the preservative is colourless you can see where your up to, until it dries.

I also spoke with three groups of visitors about our aims and objectives.

This week has seen highs and lows at Fimber Halt!

On Wednesday VB3 flooring was completed.

: A nice smooth floor.

However, it was noted that the newly painted interior walls have had their finish badly affected by water seeping through the timbers. With hind site we should have treated, re-caulked and painted the outside before doing the inside. To try and stop the rain getting onto the two ends so that they will dry out and can be dealt with, I erected some temporary shelter. I hope we don't suffer any high winds for a while!

Refurbishing and rebuilding VB3 is proving to be a challenge!!

On Saturday we had the esteemed presence of our chairman and site manager

They busied themselves with cleaning newly acquired signalling stuff and preparing a site for moving the sleepers to. They are currently sitting at the end of the coach and we hope get some mechanical help to move them soon.

Meanwhile one of our new volunteers, Barry did a lot of hard work filling in holes by the south gate in preparation for using it as the visitor entrance on Best of British day on the August bank holiday.

Last but certainly not least, Robin Bell gave field two a dressing with a 'drag' to smooth it and kill some weeds. The field is quite firm despite the heavy rain we have been having so we are confident that it will be an excellent car park.

Work on VB3 is progressing albeit at a painfully slow rate.
Yesterday saw the finishing touches being put to the floor by the addition of a skirting and work started on fitting steel plates to the outside to cover the gaps. Both were sealed up with silicone to make watertite. Also added was an aluminium step plate.
