Re: Work in Progress
Saturday 11th March was a most productive day at Fimber Halt! Round about 15 people on site at one time. The loco was given an inspection by three really nice lads. They belong to 'Industrial Diesel & Railway Preservation Group'. There verdict? Old Eddie is in really good condition and they thought the engine looked particularly smart. I'm sure there's more to it than that but that was the general verdict.

The track was attacked by Polar bears but seemed the better for it! The bump was reduced and the track straightened out.

The soil was scraped off the south end of the original site and at one time it looked like another soil mountain had appeared but it was soon carted off down field 2 and spread out.

Re: Work in Progress
The big change was the moving of the storage box to its new position in line with the large caravan and it is now more safely mounted and level on its supports. This was much more labour intensive than would be thought because most of the very heavy signal and points equipment had to be carried out of the box as it was too heavy to move with the stuff still inside. Then it all had to be put back. Backbreaking work!!
The small caravan will be moved to a better position in due course. I think it will be made a bit more likeable with a few licks of paint. It has served us well for the last four years and despite being small, volunteers like to take their snacks in it. However on a day like today, even the big caravan was crowded!

Re: Work in Progress
Good to see that Eddie past scrutiny, and so there will be a slightly better view from the "Fimber Hilton" at tea breaks, for the time being.

Another little project was completed yesterday! Brian and Big Dave have been restoring a set of scales and the job is now complete. They have done a tremendous job as you can see:-
Now doesn't that look smart?
