One video on YouTube shows someone pouring petrol (or some other highly flammable liquid) straight out of the can onto a switch at Goathland that's already on fire :shock: The flames travel up to the can, of course.....

What can we learn from this,


Should we have a propane weed burner, deck dryer in our tools, i wonder what the alaska railway uses to get thier switches working.

Alaska seemed to have boxes which I assume are some form of electric heater.

The NYMR video shows that people need to be very careful what they do on the railway, as there is always the possibility that someone is watching! And it’s obviously much worse on the mainline, where there are people on bridges, in their houses, hiding behind trees etc!

No, but there will be at some point if we continue to run in frosty weather, probably wouldn't prevent us as we leave switch set to main.

Ther are lessons though.
