It's not all Units!

Post by Rail Rover »

Nothing to do with the YWR, but a couple of pictures to show that there are some trains other than units on the Driffield line even in 2013. Both these were taken this week; 31233 on a test train on Monday & 47746 (at Arram with 47786 on the rear) on Sunday.

and some more...
20309 & 20305 at Driffield 11 March 2014

Class 20s 309 & 305 with train 6T90 returning ballast wagons to Doncaster from Filey on Tuesday morning. Running around 50 minutes later than their booked 06:30 time; at least it was pretty light by then!

It must be about 35 years since I last saw 20s through Driffield on the regular morning coal trains to Driffield & Bridlington.

If anyone is interested in local 'gen', I'd be happy to post on here if I get reasonable notice. I rely on son Tom for it now! In this hi-tech world, you don't stand on platforms anymore waiting to see what comes!

However, these 20s could have been a 'shed' until the morning as apparently there was a spare one at Doncaster when the train started on the Monday night; there was no further gen almost until they turned up!

I certainly would be interested in finding out information like that Phil. (yes it sounds odd when I work for the Main Line Railway. I think it will be good public relations to show these sort of posts on the general forum.
There are about 6 class 20s and a 47 lined up at Doncaster in the siding at the moment.
I might even get my pencil and notebook out again.
I suppose that has now gone with all this modern technology.

Here's a photo I took whilst changing ends at Brid on the RHTT (Rail Heat Treatment Train). This was back in Oct 2008. The RHTT sets (topped and tailed with 20's) were irregular visitors to Brid throughout the RHTT season (October to early December). We used to go up the branch from Hull early in the season every day for the first couple of weeks, then not go again until towards the end of the campaign. I never did understand why that was?

Short notice, but there's a Scarborough - Derby test train due through Driffield at 20.13 this evening. Should be a 31 with 3 coaches + DVT as per the first post on this topic. It also came through on Tuesday evening with the driving trailer leading, but the 31 should be leading this time.
