Work in Progress

Post by Rail Rover »

For those members reading this, you will no doubt be up to date with events via the Members' area of this forum or by the quarterly newsletters you have received.

Most interested non-members will probably have a good idea of progress made as we have held several open meetings & events since we first gained access to our site near Fimber in October. Development has been rapid, especially considering the winter we have had.

The Visitor Centre coach arrived from Gloucester on January 17th (the temperature peaked at -5C that day!) & the locomotive only a couple of weeks ago. Today (Bank Holiday Monday) it was somewhat warmer!

Sterling help from our many volunteers both on & off site, significant funding from "LEADER", & support from Trackwork Ltd has enabled us to develop the site relatively quickly.

If you are interested in this project; which will be East Yorkshire's ONLY heritage railway, please come along to one of our many events held during the year. We will also be at Sledmere Nostalgia Weekend, Driffield Show & Driffield Steam Rally over the summer. We have various other trips & fund-raising events lined up, which are locally advertised in advance.

Due to construction on the site, we can unfortunately not allow unaccompanied visits & we hope to open the site to the public later this year. If you would like to know more or are interested in joining, please email or 'phone us; alternatively please use this thread.

Amongst other things happening on site is the restoration of the coach. Here's a quick snap from yesterday showing the gradual improvement in it's appearance.

We've now put together the 2014 Calendar (bargain at £8.00!) and this year have decided to alternate old pictures with 'current' ones, now that we are making good progress.

Matthew has put the current developments in chronological order & it's absolutely amazing to see how the site has changed since October. Here are a few shots:

The transformation from the first to the last seems remarkable in the time we've had!

There has also been much work done to the interior of the coach:

You can see where the rewiring is being undertaken by Paul (Repton on this forum).

A big thanks to all who have contributed so much to progress on site up to now. If you're interested, you can also find video updates on our YouTube page - why not take a look?

Despite the rain last night, we have now managed to get all our track panels laid out in situ!

There is a lot of fettling to do over the coming weeks (possibly a month or so) although the recent purchase of appropriate jacks will aid this tremendously.

A big thank-you to all those who have helped so far. Believe it or not, there were 8 members volunteering yesterday evening, plus our telehandler man who helps greatly. This is tremendous support, but of course we would certainly welcome more!

It has to be more fun than watching 'Enders!
