Re: "There's no money"
One of the other lines -Weardale or Wensleydale, can't remember which, is taking materials from this source. Is the any news of progress on the visitor centre for those of us who aren't members? I see that the Dean Forest is disposing of some rolling stock, but it is a bit decrepitThe CCT might be a...

Re: I was out cycling the other day....
The 08 is, allegedly, intended for the NYMR eventually. I think for the M&D you'd be better off looking for an O3/04 - there's one for sale at the West Somerset Rly atm with Teeside connections, I believe. From the pics I've seen the ex-Sinderby Mk 2's are all pretty far gone and have been heavi...

Re: Something scary at Pickering
That is a very sensible attitude, and I'm sure that existing HRPs will be only too happy to pass on their knowledge and experience.

Re: Something scary at Pickering
Two posts and only four lines of text! Have you got RSI from your response to my last post on training? I don't believe I accused you of anything in my last post in this thread. I merely pointed out that the NYMR is no more accident prone than some smaller concerns and that if anything some of the s...

Re: Something scary at Pickering
It is perhaps worth pointing out that almost at the same time as the NYMR accident there was another one at the Pontypool & Blaenavon, a line at the opposite end of the heritage railway spectrum but another one with steep and unforgiving gradients. Accidents happen on all preserved railways and ...

Re: Something scary at Pickering
I don't think things are quite as gloomy as you suggest. High pressure steam plant is widely used in various industries and railway locomotive boilers are not that removed in terms of technology. If one accepts that arsenical copper is going to become harder and harder to obtain, and that all steel ...

Re: Something scary at Pickering
I haven't been on here for a while as I thought there was nothing much going on but I think it is wide of the mark to suggest that the NYMR (and other railways) are doing little or nothing to ensure the survival of skills. The Head of C & W on the NYMR served his apprenticeship there over 20 yea...

Re: Something scary at Pickering
And whats even scarier is that they haven't completely decided what is going back in, concrete pipes or otherwise. Lets hope the floods don't come!!!!!! As far as I'm aware that's not true, and I don't believe they would have started the work if it was the case! Concrete pipes (i.e. culverting) was...

Re: Nowhere to Nowhere?
I think that Philip Crossland has a valid point. I wouldn't call the MRC at Butterley or the Market Bosworth lines high profile, indeed I'd say that the MRC is in steep decline - it had to make several staff redundant last year, for example yet, Ironically, it passes almost within sight of two main ...

Re: Quiz of the day
Going back to the remains of the platform at Fyling Hall, it would be worth finding out who now owns it - you may be in need of NER-style platform coping stones one day. When the NYMR extended the platforms at Grosmont some years ago Iseem to remember them having some problems finding some.
