2nd Annual General Meeting Summary

0

Thursday 7th October has just seen the society hold its second annual general meeting (AGM) in the Council Chamber at Driffield Community Centre. Members had the opportunity to get full details of the progress the society has made during the past year in furthering its aims of reopening part of the former Malton & Driffield Junction Railway as East Yorkshire’s only standard gauge heritage railway and visitor attraction.

Members heard reports from Chairman Peter Dymock, Vice Chairman Phil Robson, Treasurer John Lidster and Secretary Ivan Merino, as well as a report of the work to date of the recently formed Fimber Site Sub-Committee by its Chairman, Graham Danby.

Members also had the opportunity to direct questions to members of the committee as well as view and purchase some of the increasing range of souvenir sales stock that the society is producing as part of its fundraising activities. This will go hand in hand with recently submitted bids for grant funding to enable work to begin in establishing the society’s first physical attraction at the ERYC owned Fimber picnic site, formerly the site of Sledmere & Fimber station, sometime within the next twelve to eighteen months.

In view of the gradually increasing range of activities in which the society is engaging, it is looking to recruit new members. If you fancy the opportunity to get involved with the work of the society, whether it is fundraising, making a cup of tea, staffing stands at shows and open meetings or wielding a shovel or saw on site at Fimber, then please see our ‘become a member‘ page for details of how to join the society or contact the Secretary at secretary@yorkshirewoldsrailway.org.uk for more information on volunteering opportunities.

Many hands make light work and you could be a part of history by being involved in the return of the first rails to the former Malton to Driffield railway trackbed since the demolition men left in 1960.
