There is a whole range of things taking place at present for which volunteers are required not least of which is the society’s first presence at a public event, namely the 2009 Driffield Agricultural Show on Wednesday 22nd July.
Please see the events calendar and volunteering sections in this newsletter for further information.
The society is also in the process of applying for membership of the Heritage Railway Association which will enable it to access further expertise, advice and contacts in preparing it’s business case and eventual reopening plans.
On the publicity front, the society is to be included in the Driffield Town Guide and is also looking into having some information boards produced for static siting and use at public venues. Similar boards have been produced to a very high standard and examples are available for viewing in the village of Thixendale in East Yorkshire outside the village hall.
Still on the subject of publicity, the society’s web site is to see further development with historical content and image galleries amongst other things once issues surrounding photographic copyright have been resolved.
Another publicity item is that one of our committee members, Chris Simpson, has placed an order with Procast for the production of a full size aluminium alloy locomotive headboard with the name ‘Malton Dodger’ inscribed on it. This will hopefully be used at shows and other public events and will hopefully one day be placed on the first locomotive to travel over rebuilt M & DJR running lines!
On a social note, it is hoped to develop an annual social calendar where all society members can mix and get to know each other.
Ideas floated so far include a trackbed walk, Christmas social, summer BBQ, etc. If any members have other ideas then please forward them to the committee for inclusion. As Tesco are so fond of saying, ‘every little helps’!
