On Thursday 26th March various society members attended a very enjoyable talk given by Mr Warwick Burton, author of The Malton & Driffield Junction Railway, to the High Wolds Heritage Group at Thixendale village hall.
The talk covered many interesting facets of the railway, over and above that contained in the book, covering events during surveying and construction of the route, it’s operating days, final closure in 1958 and the line since then.
Afterwards everyone present had the chance to mingle over tea and coffee and this presented society members with the opportunity to speak about the society’s aims, including to Mr Burton himself, in a relaxed and informal manner.
In addition, the chance arose to find out about and discuss various possible sources of grant funding for which the society may be eligible. These will be researched and the results presented in due course.
