We are now able to announce that, subject to planning & other permissions, the next phase of this project will be the installation of a Brake Van or similar on a short section of track at the northern end of the picnic site at the former ‘Sledmere & Fimber’ station. A signal post will accompany this. Further, we will install in due course a coach & temporary platform that will become a visitor centre. This will house a small shop for regalia & fund-raising items, aswell as a small ‘museum’ area.
The idea is to provide a tangible presence that should raise our profile & encourage further members & volunteers to come forward. We can then establish the appetite for the longer term goal of reinstatment of a part of the railway (some land has already been offered), & gain further credibility for future negotiations with relevant interested parties.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council are behind the project & indeed this phase. It will be part of the council-owned site that is used at least in the short term. We are pursuing a bid for funding with Leader+ (our ‘Expression of Interest’ has already been accepted) & we are currently putting together a funding application.
